Our chapter has two major charity organizations that we donate our proceeds to: Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation & Reading is Fundamental.
Every school year, we plan two major philanthropy projects. One of them is called The Taste of Kappa, which is modeled after The Taste of Chicago. We have restaurants from around the Bloomington-Normal area donate samples of their food and we sell them to the campus community on the Eckley Quad to raise money for our charities.
Our other major philanthropy project is our annual Pink Party. This is a silent auction party, where we invite women important in our lives. This year we have awesome vendors coming to the Pink Party (including Lia Sophia jewelry and Purseonalities), and speakers, and will have arranged gift baskets for the purpose of raising breast cancer awareness and supporting breast cancer research.
Of course our chapter is also very active with other philanthropy projects in addition to the Taste of Kappa and the Pink Party, including the Silver Foundation, the Baby Fold, and Reading is Fundamental. Each Kappa is required to complete at least six philanthropy hours a semester, and many girls fulfill these hours by volunteering at the nearby BroMenn hospital, with local schools and with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. We also visit residents of retirement homes and paint their facility's windows.
